The Connecting Flight: A Prize-Winning Patrón Cocktail?

A few weeks ago Mike found out about the Patrón Perfectionists cocktail competition and decided to take part in it. Knowing he had only a couple weeks to create the perfect cocktail, he set to work playing with ingredients (from the allowed list) and after many variations and rigorous testing, this delightfully complex creation was his submission. The Connecting Flight was inspired by Mike's Swiss-Canadian heritage as well as his desire to see and experience more of this beautiful world that we live in. Choosing Patrón Reposado for this cocktail, Mike played off the freshness of the Agave as well as the hint of oak from the short time spent in barrels. This stirred cocktail is sure to please as its delicate yet playful qualities tickle your palate.

The Connecting Flight

Ingredients:

1 square inch Yellow Bell Pepper

1 bar spoon Maple Syrup

1 1/2oz Patrón Reposado

1/2oz Amaro Montenegro

1oz Fresh Orange Juice

1oz Steeped Cold Jasmine Tea

3 dashes Peychaud's Bitters

2 spritzes Absinthe

Directions:

In a mixing glass, muddle the bell pepper. Add the rest of the ingredients and stir with ice for 20-25 seconds. Fine strain into a rocks glass with a large cube. Wipe the rim of the glass with manipulated orange peel and spritz the top of the cocktail with the absinthe. Garnish with a maple candied orange wheel, fresh orange wheel, or orange twist.
